Kochi is a beautiful coastal city of historical importance (Vasco Da Gama died here). It was a major port and spice trading center.

Being a big city, it was not in our list to visit. However, since it was new years eve, we took a break from enjoying the rural Kerala.

For change, we stayed in a star hotel — Fragrant Nature — instead of a homestay. It is a nice hotel with a good location and food.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) we didn't find any party worthwhile. Instead, we had an early dinner and dozed off. Avoiding crowds (especially indoor) is one of our rules for this road trip.

Fort Kochi is one of the touristy areas in Kochi. However, it had a pretty abandoned feeling due to lack of foreign tourists, and most businesses closed or operating in a low key fashion.

We spent most of our outdoor time walking/driving on the beachside areas and appreciating the old British/Dutch/Portuguese buildings.

Unfortunately, we didn't find any worthwhile beachside cafe or bar.

Arippa (M G Road, Kochi) Amazing Kerala food; a paradise for meat lovers! We had kappa, fish steam-cooked in banana leaf, chicken, etc. This was clearly the highlight of the trip!

Jan 01 — Sunrise over the Arabian Ocean (Kochi)

Off to Varkala now… the next stop in this road trip.
